8/31/2006 bocas del torobocas del toro... best place to go visit in panama! that is, if ur into paradisiac caribbean islands, rustic but exotic hotels, and excellent & varied food.
heres the lowdown on my experience:
we stayed at el limbo. rather nice! will stay there on my next trips, im sure!
we partied at barco hundido. the club is the one thats happening... hot bartender and all!
we beached at:
red frog - for $2, walk thru a dense and pretty jungle to get to the beach. check out the bar, flip flops, w swings seats. expect strong current and big waves here. boca del drago - quiet beach. calm waves.. almost non existent! 40-min taxi cab drive but well worth to spend a morning there.
we ate at (the most memorable):
pargo rojo - all around nice. this is the place if u feel like eating and being trendy while at that.
el pecado del sabor - cheesy name not reflective of the food! i felt like at a mexican cantina. awesome environment. high-end food.
here are other general links:
always support our locals and travelling hippies when here. they made our stay the most enjoyable. so.. come out to bocas and play!
L 8/19/2006 dell bells!first, the explosion occurs...
second, the ad, making mention of the equation used to develop the atomic bomb...
![]() im still glad i took a job with them. makes things more.. interesting.. ?? L 7/21/2006 olsens voguin'here r m fashion icons.
the olsens.. in vogue.. by paolo roversi
very much 70s pop art-esque.. luv it!
![]() ![]() 6/23/2006 on ange & coop...while i think its great that angelina jolie gives a third of her income to charity and the african cause... i think that it is all unnecessary publicity. we know u care, ange. we get it. lets move on.
also, can we all agree that we were not really expecting her to talk about the refugee cause, but about if whether stealing husbands represented a setback on her work to the african cause? ok. a bit to racy. but.. is she adopting again? what country this time? thats really what we all cared about...
as for anderson, perhaps angelina is not promoting a movie, but.. we havent exactly forgotten he just published his first book. great! coop has just accomplished journalism stardom!
heres gawker's breakdown on anderson coopers interview to angelina jolie. this is a must-read. hilarious!
heres nypost's words about it.
L 6/19/2006 netherlands.. not so perfect!im just so dissappointed at the netherlands. everyone who knows me knows that ive always thought of amsterdam as the land of milk and honey. gezellig. i admire their acceptance and resolution to issues like gay marriage, euthanasia, and drug use.
but then ayaan hirsi ali happened. ayaan is a somalian who fleed to the netherlands under false personal information to gain asylum. the netherlands has allegedly juuust found out and, therefore, has revoked her dutch citizenship.
like mario vargas llosa proclaims, the netherland loses. they lose ayaan, the advocate for freedom of speech and rights of women. i guess the US wins, as she will be migrating there to work for a think tank. the US can be cool like that...
![]() happy world refugee day, ayaan!
L 6/12/2006 san blas left me speechless...... so ill just post a few links for u to check out:
where i stayed.
who live in san blas.
what the govt of panama says.
do check out my pictures too!
if ur into beachy, relaxing, rustic kind of spots... san blas is the most stunning place u could visit... ever!
L
ps. coincidentially enough, today i found this article (in spanish) in la prensa, on pierre-dominique gaisseau, a french cinematographer that filmed an unreleased documentary called iberogun: god is a woman, about the kuna culture in san blas. i would have liked to see that out. pity.. 6/6/2006 overheardlocation: panama city airport.
characters: two ladies.. one in her late 30s, the other one in her mid 20s.
their description: tacky as hell!
older tacky chick: oh hiiii... how r u doooin?
younger tacky chick: fiiiiine.
older tacky chick: is that ur baaby?
younger tacky chick: yeaaah.
older tacky chick: u do remember me riiight?
younger tacky chick: mmm yeaaah.
older tacky chick: u remember my name riiight?
younger tacky chick: yeaaah.. i saw u standing ova thereee.
older tacky chick: ur babies blue eyes (more like light brown eyes) from ur man? so preeetty. u have any more baaabies?
younger tacky chick: just two more. (2 kids around ages 4 and 6 running all over the place)
older tacky chick: well.. stop havin babies. ur tooo pretty to have any more babies. look at u.. ur all skinny and pretty and stuff.. xcept u need to lose that baby tummy fat. (grabs baby tummy fat)
whoa.

ps. any panamanians interested in me recreating the scene.. just call me! 5/17/2006 boy friendsis it odd that i cant befriend any straight guys? especially being here in panama? i do have my old straight boyfriends... im stuck with those! hehe. but... make new ones? ive had a goood few chances being here.. and.. i have passed on those! i find no connection. and mind u... i dont treat my male gay friends as if they were my 'girrrlfriends'. oh no i dont. never have! theyve never replaced my girlfriends. i just dont know whats up. any ideas? please let me know.
L 5/15/2006 YES to immigration reform..... duh!the facts:
the border: the crackdown on illegal immigrants at the border is clearly not working. the problem has been goin on for decades with a clear no fix. strengthen the borders? there is always a way in. always. the status: why turn illegals into felons if they havent violated any criminal statutes? civil codes are the only violations in question. there is a+ 5 year difference in that. the economy: illegals immigrants do pay their taxes, yet they are not refunded. so much money has been paid into social security from fake social security numbers and this ends up supporting nobody else but american workers. the issue:
the real issue is about economic justice, about a modification to the current labor laws. a much needed immigration reform will not only call for a legalization of undocumented immigrants, but will also call for the rise of the current living standard and the downfall of the minimum wage rate. the fix:
support the bill proposed by ted kennedy and john mccain: all that have been illegal in the country for +5 years will be allowed to gain legal residence, and a number of temporary low-skilled worker visas will be created. this reform will not only legalize a major portion of illegals out there, but will push a true labor movement that is so needed in the united states. the results:
the labor movement will prevent the exploitation and will improve the working conditions all across. it will benefit the lives of not only immigrants, but of all americans. simple? yes. duh!
L 5/6/2006 colbert cares!stephen colbert... true american hero! his act at the white house correspondents dinner was... uhm... a-mazing! his sarcasm truly showed, once again, an insight on the bush administration self-interested proceedings.
george w bush... not impressed with him. and why would he be when he and his administration were wittily slashed? wonder if he noticed at all... on his own.
![]() 4/30/2006 belfastbelfast is my new favourite city. its big enough to not get bored, and small enough to not get lost. what about a city where not only u can still smell fresh air... but u get a fabulous view of the country side from just about any point..? i loved every walk i had there.
city centre is nothing but a truer city's center. everything is going on there. the train station, the buses, all commerce and big shops. but as for shopping i have to say my favourite was walking down lisburn road to check out all the little boutiques. very affordable too for how artzy they are.
weather was blissful! i got lots of sun.. not one time it rained... except when it poured on us in giants causeway.. of all places! giants causeway was amazing.. breathtaking.. and slippery! i felt miniscule.. it sunk in right then how big this world is and how much more there is to see, appreciate, and learn from. i know.. all of that right there, right then.
i was sooo missing my girlfriends there! it was great to see them again... and see how they do the day by day. then.. there was the night by night. heres the list.
cafe vaudeville - good tacky.. that art nouveau thing. but loved the decour! crowd is a total *ignore.. so its pretty much all about the place and the people u go with.
whites - best by far. hipster, slash, everyone and everything goes. music, ur 80s, 90s hits.
the nothern whig - a tat of a cheesy crowd, but ur great new and old house music hits. bad wine list.. but great mojitos!
v bar - went there for 2 pound cocktails! and quiz nite. our group of people won the quiz challenge that nite.. 100 pounds! 10 each. cool!
the bot - u cannot get any more typical irish sports bar than this!
milk - real popular club. heard its a rough crowd usually... well.. not on monday nite for.. gay nite! props to belfast tranny titty von trapp for the lovely time...
as for food in belfast, must recommend rain city. not only my friend emma works there... but its just really good cuisine. eastern-western fusion. their cocktails are lovely... so is their goat cheese salad and curry mussels! the restaurant is owned by paul rankin, famous chef and restauranteer in belfast. besides it.. we did the late nite food, after drinking. the list..
esperantos - ur kebab joint w questionable items as tops.
dragon rendezvous - how bout a sit-in dining place, white top table cloths, open till 3 am? they have best orange duck! 71-75 donegall pass.
libertys - i had to wait forever for my homemade hawaiian pizza.. but it was goooood and well worth it! 44 bradbury place.
i also checked out newtonards, where my friend claire is from. and port rush.. lovely little surfing town.
about belfast here:
L 4/11/2006 feliz martes santoi can now say i experienced holy week in seville. it was... whoa! quite sumptuous.. and quite different.
in a nutshell, u watch processions of brotherhoods that walk their monuments around the streets of the city center all throughout the week. the one i saw was the Hermandad Los Javieres, properly called the Hermandad y Cofradía de Nazarenos del Santísimo Cristo de las Almas, María Santísima de Gracia y Amparo y San Francisco Javier. got milk w that? ;)
![]() Santísimo Cristo de las Almas, Cristo de Pires Azcárraga, 1947
![]() penitentes, who carry the crosses and wear their brotherhood's traditional 'antifaz' which preserves anonymity. many of them walk the procession barefeet as a form of their personal penance, hence their name.
![]() nazarenos, who, as the penitentes, wear their brotherhood's traditional 'antifaz', but also a 'capirote' conic face cover, very reminiscent of... yep. u got it.!
![]() Virgen María Santísima de Gracia y Amparo, Virgen de Fernández Andés, 1936
more information on this brotherhood and semana santa in seville here.
L 4/8/2006 elegantly decadent!i fell in love with juergen teller the day i saw his pictures for the spring/summer 2003 marc jacobs ad campaign of of winona ryder, soon after she 'borrowed' mjs pieces from saks back in 2001.
![]() it was the beginning of his future representations of the decadence of elegance ... which brings us to his 'les demoiselles de la nuit' spread in w magazine, april 2006.
![]() ![]() ![]() its beautiful garbage... beautiful!
i heart teller.
L 3/31/2006 junk mail is hotoh junk mail.. we love to hate it! but at times there will always be one that will shine amongst the usual penis enlargement magic and awesome weight loss meds ones... like this one:
sounds like a deal, right? he calls u ur friend, and he'll give u 10% of 15mill! riiight. so if anybody is interested.. heres his myspace profile he can be contacted through. he's single too! picture included... L 3/29/2006 cadiz.. a bit late!i spent carnival in cadiz w the hottest and most intelligent boy in the whole wide world.. abe. haha.. how cheesy am i! we stayed in a town very close to cadiz called puerto de santa maria. it is a very picturesque little town, right by the guadalete river in the cadiz bay. our hotel, bodega real, was just opened last summer. for a 4 star hotel we paid a rather cheap price. i have to rate it a 9.5.. as the eggs in the morning were gross.
we ate at little bars, for the most part. they are located everywhere.. literally! we dined both nights at pasta gansa, we surely loved it that much. we could not coordinate in regards to food and open restaurants due to the siesta.. but we managed!
we went to cadiz via renfe and via taxi one nite. the carnival itself was rather different than the usual carnival festivities i have heard of in other places, like the new orleans mardi gras, carnaval in rio de janeiro, carnaval in panama, different even from the carnival in tenerife! people dress in costumes, mostly kids and group of friends, and stumble around town. i didnt see much drinking.. perhaps cuz i was so drunk myself the whole time! chirigotas were cool. they are small groups of people that go walking around town, all dressed up in uniform costumes, they sing and play instruments. their songs are of various themes, political, humourous, celebrity, etc. they even participate in contests and such. rad!
L 3/15/2006 Volverit is such a good feeling the one that memories and remembrances give you. but there is no better feeling than the one to experience them again, to return to them. i never really talked about how i felt when i left panama or st louis behind. i just always knew i would cherish more my feelings when i returned.
i cannot wait to see pedro almodovar's latest film, volver. a celebration of women, it explores subjects such as death and maternity, around the need to return to fix unresolved situations.
for those of you who don't know me, i am a avid follower of good soundtracks. this will definetetly be one to keep. here are the lyrics to this movie's official song, a well known tango.

volver
by estrella montoya
lyrics by carlos gardel
**************************** L
